Swelling: Angioedema is essentially a bad form of hives. The mechanism of action is usually similar, but angioedema is the result of a stronger allergic response effecting larger blood vessels. So not just your skin swells, but deeper tissue. If in the throat this can be serious. Acute treatment similar to hives: antihistamine, epinephrine, steroids. A special kind is caused from ace inhibitors.
