Try these: If you have not tried over the counter pain relievers, start there (unless you cannot take them; read the package instructions). Gentle neck exercises can help (like isometrics). When resting, try resting your forearm on top of your head. If the pain does not improve, see your primary provider. It may be a neck or a shoulder problem (or even something else).

Depends on cause: These symptoms could be the result of something sinister such as heart problems and should be investigated by your dr, esp. If accompanied by diff breathing, nausea or sweating.Often, though, vertebral or rib problems cause a similar complex & can range from aching to sharp pain.A good history & phys is the only way to determine cause for certain.Osteopathic hands-on exam & treatment could help.
