Salicylic acid works as an exfoliant, promoting the slough of dead skin cells and cellular debris – thus helping to correct the abnormal desquamation process that occurs in acne-prone skin. Salicylic acid encourages the shedding of dead skin cells from within the follicle, helping to keep the pores clear.
