Will my hair grow back after radiation treatment to the head?

Yes.: Hair loss will start about 2 weeks into radiation treatment. It occurs because the treatment damages the hair follicles. Hair grow will usually begin again a few months after the end of treatment. The hair texture, color and thickness may not be the same. With very high doses of radiation there might not be any regrowth. Ask the radiation oncologist what to expect.

It depends: The amount of radiation used may be high enough that there will not be regrowth. You should ask your radiation oncologist whether they think this will be the case. If they don't know for sure, be gentle with your scalp/hair (don't use harsh chemicals or scrub the scalp hard) and keep your scalp warm with hats/wigs. If it will grow back, it will usually do so in 6-12 months.
