I was born in '86. received all the immunizations for hbv. do i need to get additional shots every 10 or so years? can i still get hbv despite being immunized for it?

HBV shots: Hbv (hepatitis b virus) is not as prevalent in the us due to almost universal vaccinations. Hbv doesn't require repeated immunizations every 10 years unlike tetanus/diphteria/pertussis. However, immunity is known to wane over time, so if your immunity has waned you may become prone to infection once you contract it. The only way to know is to do a titer of antibodies to hepatitis b surface antigen.

Read further: You should not need further immunization for hep b if you received your doses with the correct spacing between them. No vaccine is 100% which means it is still possible to get the disease if you have been immunized but you are much less likely and the effect of the disease in immunized individuals is usually much less severe than in unimmunized individuals.

No boosters : Are currently recommended for those vaccinated. We know that the protective antibody wanes over time but data to date suggests that immunity lasts longer than detectable antibody.
