Usually OTC medicine: For minor illnesses like a cold, fever and headaches go away by themselves. Most people use otc meds like tylenol, (acetaminophen) motrin, or advil for relief of such symptoms. If a person has a strep throat infection or a bacterial sinus infection, antibiotics are the standard treatment. A doctor can evaluate to give a diagnosis, especially if a person has more than minor, temporary symptoms.

Motrin/aleve/tylenol: These otc meds have both antipyretic and analegic properties and so should help both problems. Fever maybe from viral illnesses, but if persistent or headache is more severe or associated with light sensitivity/neck stiffness, consult doc asap. Good luck.

Need to see dr: It is important that you see your dr, because although you might just have a viral illness, you could have something more serious, like meningitis (inflammation of the covering of the brain). It is important to know what other symptoms you might have, such as neck stiffness, rash, fatigue, etc. Also, what age are the symptoms in?

Motrin or Tylenol (acetaminophen): Tylenol (acetaminophen) and Motrin both decrease fevers and pain.
