NOT a food issue: Studies show diet plays no role in eradication of h pylor infection of he stomach (a possible cause of stomach ulcers). However , avoidance of smoking, alcohol, caffeine will help lower the levels of stomach acid. The usual treatment for h pylori includes 3-4 drug regimens including antibiotics and ppi (anti-acid meds, e.g. Prilosec, prevacid). Hope you are better soon!

Treat HP.: H. Pylori is not associated with extreme wind. However, hp should be treated with a regimen of antibiotics. If your wind does not get better, you can go down a different path afterwards.

How do you get rid of h pylori?

Medicine: You treat it with medication - either a triple or quadruple therapy that includes antibiotics and acid reducers. Many of these come in combination pills so you have to take only 1 pill instead of 3 or 4 per day. It is for a short period of time to eradicate the h pylori infection. You should, however, be evaluated by a gastroenterologist, including possible endoscopy, to rule out ulcers from it.

A 45-year-old member asked:

What does h. pylori "eat"? How would you starve it to get rid of it?

Would not work.: H pylori has all of the nutrients that it needs in the mucus layer of the stomach. There is no way to "starve" it. The only way to get rid of it is treating it with antibiotics. Hope that helps.
