Rupture plaque: Typically an atherosclerotic plaque/ hardening in the mesenteric artery that cracks/rupture causing acute clot or thrombosis inside the artery. Usually occurs in chronic smokers, sometimes with diabetics , hypertensive or high cholesterol patients. Unfortunately, mortality in these cases is very high / at least 50% because of associated severe and extensive bowel ischemia and gangrene.
