Seek care!!: A child with pneumonia needs to seek medical care from a professional. There are two types of pneumonia, viral and bacterial. Bacterial pneumonia requires antibiotics. Viral pneumonia, as with the flu, in a stable patient, can be treated as an outpatient with symptomatic care. Lots of fluids, and rest. Steam may help with the cough. Most cough suppressants should not be used in children.
