That's a good start: But if it persists or becomes unresponsive to those kind of over the counter drugs, then it is time to find out what the cause of the pain is. It is generally a real good idea to diagnose before treating! good luck!

NSAIDs: In general over the counter nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs such as advil or Aleve tend work better than tylenol (acetaminophen). I would see a hand surgeon to get a diagnosis as what is causing the pain.
