Several ways: A trained orthopedic surgeon will evaluate the best way to remove a bone cyst, if it needs to be removed. It can be frozen (cryosurgery), removed with an instrument followed by bone grafting (curettage), injected with steroids, treated by drilling holes into it, or sometimes radiated. The age of the patient and the location and size of the bone cyst are taken into account.

Surgery: Bone cysts do not always need treatmen, however if large as we sometimes see in the heel bone, they may cause fracture, traditionally the have been surgically cleaned out and packed with bone graft. Ther have been a few reports in the literature of endoscopic clean out and grafting.
