A 34-year-old member asked:

Can problems in the gallbladder cause chest pain?

Dr. Barry Rosen
General Surgery 34 years experience
Yes.: Gallbladder pain is typically localized to the right upper- or midline abdomen, but can occasionally feel like it is coming from the lower mid chest. In fact, it is not uncommon to be hospitalized for a suspected heart attack only to find that it is due to the gallbladder. This is not a diagnosis that can be made without testing; if you have chest pain, go to an emergency room.

A 47-year-old member asked:

Is is normal for a gallbladder polyp to cause a lot of pain?

No. : Gb polyps are usually incidental findings on ultrasound that require no treatment unless they are >1cm. However, a gallstone adherent to the wall of the gb can resemble a polyp; therefore, you may have gallstones. I advise you to see a general surgeon: if your symptoms are classic for gallbladder disease, further testing or surgery may be indicated.
