Two approaches: Firstly, it is essential to protect the foot( especially an insensate or numb foot) from abnormal stress and pressure to pevent ulcers and/or fractures. Shoes and inserts designed to do this are prescribed. Sometimes neuropathy can cause significant pain or discomfort in extremities. Medications or certain vitamins may be prescribed which may help in these instances. Consult with physicians.

Identify the cause: Neuropathy is a condition resulting from abnormal nerve function. Neuropathy can be due to certain vitamin deficiencies, nerve damage due to trauma, alcohol consumption, radiation, side effects of certain medications, or due to certain medical conditions such as diabetes. Treatment varies depending on the cause of the problem. Have it evaluated and appropriately treated.

FDA approved:: For the diabetic neuropathy, Lyrica (pregabalin) and cymbalta, and medical food metanx. Would be ok to use gabapentin, effexor, maybe tricyclic antidepressant family but not certified by fda.

Neuropathy treatment: Diabetes may result in neuropathy. Neuropathy may be treated by medicines to reduce pain symptoms. It may also be treated by preventive care (nail trimming, inspections) orthotics, splinting, and supportive devices to prevent injury and falling. The medicines most often used to treat neuropathy pain are amitriptyline, gabapentin, duloxetine and pregabalin.
