What are causes of an enlarged thyroid besides cancer?

Goiter!: This is a benign sometimes quite large thyroid enlargement. It used to be mostly due to iodine deficiency which is why we see "iodized" salt adding nai to nacl table salt. Some cases are of unknown cause. These can be cosmetic or functional problems breathing or swallowing calling for removal with thyroid replacement drugs.
