A member asked:

So why is there only a yearly telethon for mda, and why do they trot out those kids?

Strong feelings: There are hundreds of bad diseases that affect children. The mda campaign is an excellent example of how lots of money does not cure disease. I refuse to watch. I deal with many children with serious disease for whom no telethon is done. They get excellent care. Research is necessary and should be funded by need, not by which celebrity wants it funded. Sympathy does not provide cure.
