Night terrors look horrific. are they haunted or mentally ill?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

They are common: Night terrors are common and most all kids grow out of them. They usually occur before midnight, whereas night mares occur after midnight. They do seem horrific but often the child doesn't remember having one. The main thing is just to make sure the child doesn't accidently become injured during the spell. For severe cases, I have given low dose of nortriptyline liquid, like 2.5-5 mg at bedtime.
