If needed: Palliative care is a broader term than hospice care or end-of-life care. Many patients with life-threatening conditions receiving palliative care do not have pain; morphine is not necessary in this case. Pain is a significant problem for many patients receiving hospice care; appropriate use of narcotics and other means to control pain is an essential part of these patient's care.
