Concern not confirm: The american academy of pediatrics has developed testing to screen children within the first two years of life at risk for autism spectrum disorder. Questionnaire forms are used as well as performance tests. Concern may indicate referral for behavior therapy. It may take a few years before definite diagnosis is possible.

Suspected: As a proponent of early diagnosis and treatment, i monitor at-risk infants for age-appropriate social communication and reciprocal social interaction. Stereotypical movements or narrow, restricted areas of interest are infrequent, precluding formal diagnosis, but not early intervention. Uw now has a study on preventing the emergence of autistic behaviors in infants whose siblings have autism.
