More vulnerable: High stress can impair your immune system, leaving you more vulnerable to viral illness (colds, coughs, flu, etc). For instance, some research showed that students' immunity went down every year under the simple stress of a three-day exam period. Test takers had fewer natural killer cells, which fight tumors and viral infections. They produced much less immunity-boosting gamma interferon too.
