Yes, there are ways: Sometimes it is not easy matching a patient with the right style of therapist (meaning a doctor of psychiatry, a doctor of psychology, or someone with a masters of psychology). The first couple of visits might be "get to know each other" visits. One's primary care doctor may know of therapists who have been helpful with his other patients. Ask for a recommendation from the primary doctor.
