PCOS: Ask to be evaluated for polycystic ovarian syndrome. This is the most common cause of irregular periods. That can also determine if you are ovulating or not. If this is the case then birth control pills would be helpful until you decide to get pregnant.

Anovulatory cycle.: Sounds like you have polycystic ovary syndrome or hyperandrogenemia chronic anovulation syndrome (more appropriate name). Losing weight may help, as may taking metformin. See your gynecologist and/or infertility specialist to determine what is the best plan of action for your particular case. Without help, your fertility is sure to be impaired (not to say you cannot get pregnant on your own).
