Are you flatfooted?: Flatfeet or hypropronation place strain on the posterior tibial nerve in an area called the tarsal tunnel. This foot type can cause pain in the ankle as well as the burning you describe. A orthotic would be a good start if the above description sounds like your foot. If it does not help, please see a podiatrist or foot and ankle orthopedist.
