A member asked:

Why must i teach my child to wash his hands before visiting grandma?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Because you do: Your child is not born with an innate understanding of what you or anyone else will expect from him/her. You have to teach them. Communicating with your child is the only way they will understand what you expect. Children are like blank slates, they learn everything about the world by watching their parents. Wash your own hands before visiting grandma and they may start to do it more too.
