National Guidelines.: There are national guidelines published by the national institutes of health and the academy of pediatrics outlining desirable height, weight, and age. If your kids fall putside those guidelines, he/she will advise that they start being more physically active and reducing intake of sugary and fatty foods, especially those with high fructose, saturated fats, and other excess cards.

Growth charts: Your doc uses outcome to understand intake. If your kid has a weight that corresponds to the 90th percentile (heaviest 10%) in the nation, but is only average height, s/he knows there is more eating than is needed for a normal weight.A nutritional consult with a clinical dietitian can often point out the problem areas.Most parents don't have a clue that their kid is overweight or overeating.
