A member asked:

How does age affect the immune system?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Old age not golden : Advanced age seems at least in some people to lessen or blunt both immune recognition and the intensity of the humeral and cellular response. Additionally often skin barrier protection is affected as elderly are more prone to skin breakdown. Other protective functions such as cough can be diminished. Additionally other diseases, nutrition and hygiene can more likely affect the elderly.
