Cosmetically only.: When a testicle is removed, the scrotum will appear empty on that side. One option is to place a testicular prosthesis, which has a silicone shell filled with saline. This helps to establish a normal appearance to the scrotum. The implant does not perform any of the functions of a normal testicle, however, which is to produce sperm and release hormones such as testosterone.
