Only a few decades ago there was no proven connection between smoking and cancer. so what are they hiding now about the chemicals and foods?

We don't know : We don't know what we don't know. The link between smoking and oral cancer was only proven when computers got sufficiently fast and powerful to analyze the data and come up with the analysis/link. Still there is no known cause for at least 25% of oral cancers. Many people are still studying and trying to learn what the links/risk factors are, .
