A member asked:

If my friend had his kidneys removed, how long can he live without them?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Depends: If you have one kidney removed and the other is normal, there is no effect on lifespan. If both kidneys are removed, then you can only live if on dialysis. This can go for many years but such patients have a shortened lifespan. Kidney transplantation can be considered for this group.
