Why do pain killers make you drowsy?

Drowsy: Medications are processed through the blood supply, which passes through the brain. Pain signals from the brain to the injured body part are interupted (simplistically). Those same medications are often anelgesics, so the brain tells the body that story as well. These often go hand in hand, hence the undesirable side effect.
