Ice, splint & x-ray: It all depends on the fracture displacement. Non-displaced fractures usually require immobilization only. Displaced fractures require treatment, either closed or open reduction. Get an Xray: It is very important to diagnose and treat finger fractures early. Most fractures can be treated with a splint or a cast. Some do require surgery. The worst situation is a fracture which has already begun healing in a bad position. See a hand surgeon for a full evaluation.
