Why do people equate a stomach ache with a belly ache?

Synonyms: People refer to their abdomen in many different ways--stomach, tummy, gut, breadbasket, solar plexus, belly, to name but a few. While an anatomist may quibble with the "stomach" term, they all mean the same thing. Besides, "get in my abdomen!" just wouldn't be as funny in an austin powers movie.
