What's systolic blood pressure and what does the reading indicate?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

The top number: Is referred to as the systolic blood pressure. This is the maximal pressure in your arteries when your heart beats, sending a wave of blood coursing through your arteries. The bottom number is the diastolic pressure, and represents the lowest residual blood pressure in your arteries between heart beats.
