A member asked:

What is the most effective over-the-counter topical anesthetic?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Benzocaine: Topical preparations that contain Benzocaine (an ester-type local anesthetic) are probably the most effective "anesthetics". If you mean "analgesics" (i.e. Pain relief) then other compounds may work as well or better. Depends on what you are treating.
