Slowly: Your withdrawal symptoms can be minimized by a slow taper. Sometimes the symptoms can be reduced with certain medications but this should only be done under a physician's supervision. The severity of the withdrawal is often linked to how long you were taking the drug (similar to quitting smoking). The best of luck and hang in there.

Slowly: Under the direction of a physician, opioids can be tapered off slowly. Even though withdrawal can feel deathly, it's usually not a danger as it is with suddenly stopping benzodiazepines. Another helpful thing will be to work with an interventional pain physician (usually a physiatrist or anesthesiologist) that can find the source of the pain and treat that directly.
