An SSRI: Ssri's a class of antidepressants are also used to treat anxiety disorder. Xanax (alprazolam) a anxiolytic and other drugs in the benzodiazepine class can be used short term until the effective dose of ssri is achieved or as needed for breakthrough symptoms. Talk to your doctor.

How about a book?: Try reading and applying the book: stop obsessing by edna foa. It's excellent. In general, i agree with not taking xanax (alprazolam) as it can be highly addictive. My drug of choice for panic attacks is the medication nortriptyline. I start my patients on 25 mgs at bedtime. For many, this dose blocks their panic so they no longer have any. It's four dollars at walmart.

Panic: If off xanax, (alprazolam) psychotherapy with focus on cognitive work should help. I am not sure if getting on another medication when you just came off of one is a good idea, at least not before trying behavior modification.
