Fiber: It is really important to try not to get hemorrhoids in the first place. Stay well hydrated (at least 8 - 8 ounces glasses of water per day). Try to get in 5 servings of vegetables & 4 servings of fruit per day – get that fiber in. Stay physically active if possible. There are a number of over the counter laxatives that you can take now to help pass your retained fecal matter. Try sitz bath.

Veins: Hemorrhoids are normal veins in the anal canal. They can become inflamed or enlarged with constipation or prolonged and repeated straining to have a bowel movement. Treated at home by avoiding constipation, drink plenty of liquids, eat more fiber (fruits, vegetables, metamucil), avoid junk foods. See a surgeon if symptoms persist.
