AIDS=advanced stage: Being hiv+ means you have HIV infection, the name of the overall condition. If your HIV remains untreated, you will eventually progress to aids, which means you either have a CD4 count below 200 or have developed one of many "aids-defining" opportunistic conditions. There's no reason someone with HIV should ever have to develop aids anymore.
