Gravity: Gravity helps you swallow - when you lay down - it pools up in your mouth rather than at the back of your throat when you are triggered to swallow.

Not swallowing.: When you lay horizontal, your tongue falls back so you can breath thru your nose which is normal. This holds saliva in your mouth until you swallow.
