Pinched nerve: Most common cause of focal numbness is carpal tunnel syndrome, at the wrist, but nerve pinching can occur at the elbow, shoulder, or neck. Less commonly, this could be an early sign of a problem within brain or spinal cord. See your primary care doctor first, and, if a persistent problem, may need testing to uncover causation.
