Not a good idea: Recent studies have shown that even for people who exercise, sitting a lot is bad for one's health. You don't have to do much -- just stand up, stretch, walk up stairs, use exercise bands, dance -- just about anything is better than sitting.

Yes: A recent study published 7/10/12 showed that if you sit > 3 hr/day, you lose 2 years off your life expectancy. Other studies have shown increasing health risks with prolong sitting as well.
