Hard to say: Sudden sharp pains on the left side can be caused by many things, including cysts on the ovary, intermittent twisting of the ovaries, tubal pregnancy, cramps in the bowels, urinary infections and kidney stones, to name a few. A urinalysis and pregnancy tests would be a routine part of evaluation for this.
