Diet changes, nsaids: For symptoms from gallstones or "sludge" in the gallbladder, we usually recommend a low fat diet and non-steroidal anti-inflammatories like Ibuprofen or naproxen. If these don't help, and it's determined the cause of your pain really is the gallbladder and stones, then surgery is an option. But it's sometimes hard to determine if its really the gallbladder or not that's causing the pain.

Gallbladder: Depends upon what is meant by "over active" gallbladder. If the person has gallstones noted on ultrasound or other imaging study & has symptoms related to the gallbladder, surgery is the preferred option unless there are circumstances which prevent surgery such as the patient is too ill due to other health issues or refuses. See your doctor for definitive tests.
