Yes: Chemotherapy can cause lowering of the white blood cell count and place an individual at an increased risk of getting an infection. If that happens the infection could run rampant and cause death. This scenario is often called neutropenic sepsis. It can occur approximately 10% of the time and death can occur about 10% of the time (1% overall).

Yes you can: Different chemos have the potential to cause death in many ways: low white cells leading to serious infections, low platelets causing bleeding, heart problems or kidney failure. It is not common to die of chemo side effects but as always, the benefit has to outweigh the risks everytime we use these drugs.
