Dark skin: If an iron infusion leaks outside the vein, it can definitely darken the skin. Intramuscular iron injections can stain too. Iron from our own blood cells leaking out from weak veins in our legs can also make our ankles dark. That's why people with swollen legs and bad circulation often have dark brown ankles.
