Brown discharge: A brown discharge in early pregnancy may be a sign of miscarriage. In first trimester miscarriages the fetus dies first and then bleeding occurs. That you had an ultrasound means the fetus is alive. In this case the bleeding may be from a subchorionic hemorrhage. That's maternal bleeding, not placental bleeding. Most of these resolve and the pregnancy continues. You need a follow up ultrasound.
