Yes: Cancer risk is increased. Perhaps certain heart ailments as well. Plus the addiction to one substance always makes another addiction more difficult to control.

Yes: Smoking and drinking alcohol to excess greatly increases one's risk of cancer, especially esophageal cancer. The esophagus is the tube connecting the throat to the stomach. Esophageal cancer is a particularly bad kind of cancer.
