All blood cells: A complete blood count evaluates your red blood cells, white blood cells, and platelets. The numbers of each cell are counted, and the physician notes the size and shape of the cells, which tells about certain health problems. Anemia, leukemia, iron deficiency, hemolysis (red cells being destroyed), low B12 or folate (folic acid) levels, low platelets, and mononucleosis are some examples.
