Poor Sinus Drainage: Poorly draining sinuses plug up with mucus. Most head colds last 3 - 5 days. Sinusitis develops after 7 - 10 days in approximately 1 in 15 patients after a cold or flare up of allergies. Symptoms of sinusitis include - facial pressure, nasal congestion, and colored nasal and sinus drainage. Ct scans don't distinguish between a cold and a sinus infection, so don't get ct scans during early on.

Infection prone: If you have poorly draining sinuses, you are more prone to develop chronic rhinosinusitis. This just means your sinuses are inflamed and most likely infected. Often, antibiotics can resolve the problem. Otherwise, a ct scan would be needed to determine why your sinuses aren't draining properly. At that point, sinus surgery to improve drainage is indicated.
