Chlorohexidine rinse: You would need a prescription from your dentist but using chlorohexidine rrinse such as periogard (chlorhexidine gluconate) or Peridex to gargle with will quickly soothe your throat other choices are warm salt water rinses, mouth washes and Benzocaine sprays.

Thyme tea: Dr ruden gave excellent advice. Here are more options: saltwater gargles: mix 1 tsp salt in 8 oz warm water – gargle several times a day. Or gargle with aloe vera juice twice a day. Add honey & a small amt. Of lemon juice to chamomile tea. Pour boiling water over thinly sliced ginger. Steep 5 min. In a covered pot. Add 2 to 3 tbs honey & sip. Try thyme tea.
