A member asked:

If you take meds for genital herpes, can you still pass it on?

Yes : Valtrex (valacyclovir) has been shown to reduce, but not eliminate, the risk of transmission of genital herpes. Be aware that most transmissions occur in the absence of any lesions - the most common way that genital herpes presents.

Yes...consider this: As mentioned, herpes can be spread even without a visible outbreak. Using condoms will reduce the risk of transmission by half and taking meds daily to prevent transmission also lowers the risk by about 50%. Keep in mind that with almost 50 million americans infected with genital herpes & only about 80-90% aware, your partner may already have it. Get tested through your doc or at sexualhealth.Com.
